The W.H.O.B.A.A. is dedicated to the long-term preservation of the historical attributes of the Waler horse. We recognise the fact that there is no quick or easy way to secure these ideals, the necessity to secure a wide gene pool and continue to take advantage of the breeding and survival influences provided by natural selection under the influence of a harsh environment together with considered and intelligent management in a domestic situation.
Essentially, the Waler horse as recognised by this Association is the same horse as that stock or working horse (some of which were exported for military purposes) which formed the foundation of the A.S.H.S. Inc. However this Association does not acknowledge the influence of “modern” breeds or modern derivatives of the old and traditional breeds that were not influential in the evolution of the Waler when the term was applied.
The W.H.O.B.A.A. Inc. Committee includes three ex. Presidents of the Waler Horse Society of Australia Inc., two of whom were instrumental in founding that Society and formulating the original aims, ideals, definitions and methods employed by that Society. The remainder of the Committee has a similar long term history of dedication to the preservation of our identifiable Australian evolved horse.As a consequence of dedication, experience and relentless research we possess arguably the most in-depth knowledge and reference base for defining, identifying and acknowledging the Waler horse.
